This Will Make You Cry

This Will Make You Cry

Dear Unicorn Moms,

I get asked a lot why I started this group and my usual answer is because I thought, as mother, I knew there had to be more to this than just being a mom. I knew in my gut that I couldn't be the only one feeling this way. We long for those days of who we once were, the fun we used to have and the friendships we once had. In most moms groups you get bullied, ridiculed, judged and made to feel selfish if you dare to vent how you really feel, or say who your favorite child is. I wanted a place where mothers would genuinely be there for each other, and be supporting and uplifting to one another.

We all struggle. Parenting is fucking HARD! I wanted to create a community that was free of judgment, hate, bullies and mean moms. A place where we could move the conversation away from the obvious (being moms) and focus on what we (and the world) too often overlook… ourselves.

It's been an amazing journey with this group. One that I am so passionate about and committed to keeping as I originally intended. It’s not perfect, just as we as individuals aren’t. Sometimes it’s hard to keep 24k+ women in line, but more often than not, something remarkable happens. Something like yesterday.

Two women. Both struggling. One who just lost her daughter to suicide on November 26th, 2016, and the other dealing with what I could only imagine are issues and shit we've probably all dealt with. They found each other when each of them needed it the most. Strangers, who both just happen to be Unicorn Moms.

That's why I started this group. That feeling of acceptance, comfort, compassion, empathy, support, kindness, happiness, and being part of something amazing… that’s what we moms need from each other. It's a different feeling from what we get from our significant others. This female bonding is vital, not just for ourselves, but for the happiness of our family's, our spouses, our friends, and future friends.

I hope you all understand how much you all mean to me and how much this group has helped me, how YOU have helped me. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for the love and support.

Love,
Maria
